UKEBOX UKULELE STORE
2020
In an early graphic design class, we were assigned to pick an object and bring it in to class, without knowing what we were going to do with it. For some reason, I chose to bring in a ukulele and work with that. First off, we an activity where we went through and created 5 representations of our objects with the following terms kept in mind for each separate one; gestural, painterly, graphical, radical, and nirvana.
Gestural - loose lines, realistic shapes
Painterly - expressive marks, interpretation of shapes
Graphical - stark contrast, bold & simple shapes
Radical - simplistic, abstract shapes
Nirvana - a blend of every style in a cohesive fashion
Then, after doing this, we were given free range to come up with a branding system based upon one or a combination of our marks. The piece that I thought came across as the most direct for a logo was the Graphical one. I enjoyed mirroring the hole in the ukulele in the lowercase “o” in box, changing the bridge to a smile, and making the e feel more friendly by making the eye a more obvious real eye, to keep going with the face theme.
